Hmmm....

I was contemplating to write something like myths or facts on life in Spore.. But I guess, not for now.. hehehe.. have lots to write about for the almost 2 years we've been here... :P

Anyway, just received my retainers from Fay, and they look cool. It's pretty fitting now that I'm using it. Can't believe my gums/ teeth have shifted a little since 1.5 weeks ago. And I can't seem to control my saliva glands.. heheh.. hehehe.. Thanks, doc!

Clear retainers.. makes it look you're not wearing anything at all!

Rempah Udang

Yes, this is the famous sought-after rempah udang ever since the Little Nyonya drama series came on.. More pics and recipe on my Facebook...will try to compile everything in detail once I have the time.. :P.. anyway, this cake is no easy task.. takes so much of time to prepare!

Ang-koo kueh

This is my 2nd attempt to make this cake... And I passed! Hehehe.. the shape came out better this time... hehehe.. it reminds me of making the moon-cakes. :)

the mold

Kueh-teh (Nyonya Pineapple Tarts)

Did tarts yesterday... I think it's pretty straightforward on how it's done.. hehehe.. :)
so here it is... taa daa!

Apom Balik

Yay! I finally satisfied my cravings of apom balik... It's not really easy doing this as I watched my grandma do this, single-handedly....but when I tried.. I realized that there is a need to control the fire, else it will over-burn! Also, the mixture needs to be just right with the yeast rising nicely before actually making the cake.. :) After awhile (which is about 2 hours later), I finally got the hang of it.. as in which mold burns faster and which one burns slower.. I even tried changing the place of the mold over the fire.. also, I even braved myself to "fold" the cake into the "star-shape" ones.. mum said it looks prettier.. :)

The mold that grandma used... a looonnnng time ago...

Taaa daaaa!

Kuah Lada

Continuation from the previous post, my aunt wanted to cook indian curry, but I said the fishballs would taste better in kuah lada... yummy! So she searched if she has the ingredients in her fridge, and voila! Here it is... YUMMY!

Yummy!
As again, more pics on my Facebook coming up soon... tomorrow, another thing to learn.. woohoo! I'm beginning to love this "forced" holidays.. :P

Babi Pongteh

Today, my aunt decided to cook babi pongteh since my brother was going back to KL this evening.
So I decided to take this opportunity to learn as well...My aunt has been a great nyonya (Straits-born Chinese/ Peranakan Chinese) cook. She learned all the tricks of the trades by my maternal grandma who is her mum-in-law, and also a typical nyonya.
So, here are some pics taken while "cooking".. my cousin helped me take the pics as my hands were dirty.. ya.. literally dirty.. :P

Taa daaa! if I am able to capture the smell of this in the picture...hmm.. bet you'll be hungry in no timmmeee..... :)

More pics on my Facebook :)

Flower- arranging & Sushi-making @ Entelechy '09

It's part of the Entelechy event, under the East@Paya Lebar event....It's abundant living with new learning... I chose flower arranging & sushi-making...

And it was fun!!! *Note: lots of pics!*

The Summit - which was divided nicely to fit most of the classes!

Surveying the place, and found this at the sushi-making class

Check out the guitars for the guitar class!

This got me all excited!

Personal grooming class - You are allowed to take back the mirror and brush set!

The first step...

Taaaa daaaa! Nice? I roughly got the idea, so I can mix and match other flowers and other arrangements..

Sushi making class starts... with cucumber cutting!

Ta daaa.. the hardest part was to roll it!!

So for now.. anyone wants simple flower arrangement, I am able to do it.. hehehe.. besides, I bought a few books on this too :P Also, sushi, hmm.. must master the art of rolling.. :P

Till then.. have a great weekend everyone!

Balloon Sculpturing

Attended a class at church today, teaching us on balloon sculpturing. I have always been fascinated by all these kind of things, and I think that this is something useful especially when I have nieces and little cousins around. Also, it helps in parties, perhaps, wedding? Was a little bit sleepy after the service, thank God for Mel & Abby who accompanied me for lunch in church today. Haha.

And I pretty much enjoyed myself. We did four things today. A happy face, a star, a human face, and a sword. :) Here are some pics...

2 balloons given to us to practice tearing them like paper. pretty scary actually.but if you do it the right way, it won't explode in your hand. :)

a bag of balloons given to each participant

a happy face boy

the star - easier than the happy face boy

this was the nicest one that I did so far.. hehehe..

So, if you need balloons at your place.. you know who to call lah.. Anyway, I spent some $$ on balloon pump, a big bag of balloons and a book... sigh... but I think it should be worth it. :)

Basic Theory Test

*********************************************************************************
Updates: I PASSED the test! So I can go back to the office to do the conversion. Woo Hoo! Praise the LORD!
*********************************************************************************

Having my test later at 8pm. Do pray for me ya. I know it's a trivial matter, but I'm worried because failed his test. Hahaha. I guess that one because lack of study and also lack of books to study from.

I got 2 books from a friend so it should be sufficient enough for me to pass if he can pass too. Besides, I just need to pass this test to convert my Msian license to Spore license.

Few reasons why I want to do it:
1) You still get to keep your Msian driving license though you need to renew it every 5 yrs.

2) Converting license merely costs $11 ($6 for the test, and $3++ for the book).

3) After being a PR, there is a certain period of time to convert, else, I have to start from scratch again, and retake the whole course which may cost up to $2k here! (Ya, I know, it's ridiculous compared to the amount you pay in Msia for a full course :P)

4) Spore driving license is for a lifetime. ($50). No need to renew. Good right?

5) Also, did I mention that Spore license is also equivalent to an international driving license?

Yeah.. okokok.. so back to studying... taa...

Steamboat & Crabs

24th Jan 08

We went out for dinner with LY, and we met up at Bugis. I'm not sure what road this is at, but I know, after you pass by the cinema, cross the road, there's one whole road full of restaurants. We mostly saw steamboat restaurants, and after walking through the whole road, we ended up in the first steamboat restaurant. The guys were so tempted by the redness of the beef & pork slices. Hehehe. And the name of the restaurant goes something like this: Chuan Yi Pin Chinese Restaurant.
Updates: Total damage for 3 pax: $60 (it's buffet, by the way)

26th Jan 08

We went back to Segamat over the weekend. Came back by train (reached home almost half past midnight!), because we are going back next week by train. So buying tix from Msia - Spore - Msia is cheaper, as you get to pay in RM :).

MIL bought crabs. They were so fresh that the night before, they were walking all over her bathroom and she had to tie them. Ha. And so, the pro chef, Jason's maternal grandma came over to cook the chili crabs.

1. Fry the crabs a lil with salt to taste. Then take it out and put it aside.

2. To make the sauce, put in garlic, chili paste, curry powder & onions. Stir-fry till the smell comes out. Hehe.

3. Put in salt & sugar to taste.

4. Put in the crabs.

5. Fry, fry, fry, put in one beaten egg in it & curry leaves.

6. Ready to serve.

The portion shown is for 3kg crabs. Yummy!
