:: Grateful :: *edited*
This morning, as I opened my email inbox, an email with title heading " Staff Reductions" captured the attention of my eye.
Of course, without even putting my bag down, I quickly opened it. It was an announcement by the President & COO of AMD, to AMD-ers world-wide.
Part of it read:
"....staff reductions of approximately 10 percent of AMD’s total workforce..."
Wow. This is even worse then the website which was rumoured to have a 5% headcount reduction (And there were many sites which were telling us about the forth-coming retrenchment exercise). Well, at least top management have the courtesy to inform all of us before this exercise is rolled-out.
When I first came in, on April 24th 2007, a week or so after that, retrenchment was ongoing. And the worse part, it was done so discreetly that one moment you saw this person here, the next day, you might not see the person there anymore. Pretty scary. It was my first experience with retrenchment in the company. Only after the exercise was half-way completed, management informed us.
And now, close to a year later, this same thing is going on. And guess what? My last physical day in AMD is on 25th April 2008. Hehehe.
Anyway, I'm so grateful that I've secured a job amidst this "turmoil" in the company. Really thank God. It could not have come at a better time.
As for Jason as most of you have asked, he'll stay back, to continue with his studies. Besides, his position is quite secured as his position is considered critical and in fact, they need more manpower.
Grateful. Veryyyyy grateful. *phew*
p/s: Motorola also just had a retrenchment exercise sometime last week I think if I'm not mistaken...
