Segamat

As I've mentioned, we were in Segamat over the weekend. For me, usually when we go back to Jason's hometown, I'll be rather bored. Basically there's nothing to do here. That's the reason why most of his friends are all out of Segamat, making a life elsewhere. However, there's some stuffs to note about Segamat. Segamat is situated at the northern side of Johor, which explains why it's so hilly, and yes, there's no beaches in Segamat. :P. To get there from Melaka, take the highway to Tangkak (approx. 15 mins), then exit to Tangkak and drive through using the trunk road all the way to Segamat. (1 ~1.25 hrs)

Segamat, Johor.

1. After we came down to Spore, I miss looking at the lush greeneries it has.. the palms, plantation and everything green. Back here, it's basically all buildings.

Scenery all along the way. Oil palms.

Reached Segamat town, go straight for roti canai, or turn right to go to Jason's house.

2. And of course, we rushed in the morning to eat the famous roti canai made by a Chinese man.. and his sons... It beats all the roti prata in Spore, Malacca, and some say Malay/ Mamak (Indian-Muslim) ones. It's in Kg. Baru Kg. Tengah. Tried and tasted and verified by 3 food critics (WS, MC, JP) :P. What's good? The roti sardine + eggs (comes with taugeh, beansprouts). Even the plain roti bawang (onion) is crispy and yum yum. The gravy is pekat (thick) enough and it's delicious. They even have their bread toast with sardine in between. Something like roti john. Yummy. Want to know further, just leave me a note.

Yummy roti canai. Left is Jason's roti sardin + telur + taugeh. Mine is roti bawang + taugeh.

3. For lunch, we went to this place Jason's mum brought us to. (She didn't cook because we came back late, and plus, the dining table has been sent for re-varnishing). It's my first time here, and so, don't ask me where it is, but it's somewhere near his grandparents' place. It's famous for the assam fish and sambal petai sotong. So yummy! I whacked more petai than the fish that day.

Petai, in its original state before the seeds are taken out

Sambal Petai Sotong. Sedap!

4. Apart from the above, the famous NanYang Coffee Shop in town is also another place we usually will go for tea-time. Kopi-si (Coffee with evaporated milk) is superb.. what more when it's iced! Try the toasted bread. It's a longish kind of bread. Also superb. However, my hubby said the quality has deterioriated for some time already. Not sure why. Perhaps, it's no more the old man doing it. No pics here cause we didn't manage to go there that day. Will be going back to Segamat again 2 weekends from now. :)

5. Next, the famous kolo-mee (noodles with sliced roasted pork -char siew), black one is also nice. The one I prefer is the one at the corner of Sacred Heart Convent school. My hubby prefers the other one in the shop which has a few branches in Segamat alone.

Besides this, of course, there are a few good restaurants there which sells nice and unique foods. But still, nothing beats home-cooked food. :P

Well, will post up more pics when I can. Sometimes too caught up with the things or food, forget to take pics. Hahaha. :)
