Bak-Kua Crazy

************************************************************************************
Small talk: Wow, I didn't know that the bak-kua I bought in JB was one of the most famous one in Msia. It's called Wo Lai Ye by Kiew Brothers. Cool! Oh, if you're in JB, you can go to the one which is directly opposite The Store supermarket.

It's the time of the year again when these bak-kuas (sweet meat) are in rage again. I just can't pretty understand why no one eats/buys them when they have it available now all year round. Hehehe.. And it's like worse than the stock market because we keep track of how much the price is as the days to Chinese New Year gets nearer.

The last I saw was last Sunday, (yes, after watching the Red Cliff 2 with church guys) we were strolling down Orchard Road after a hearty meal at Ayam Penyet Ria, and we saw the price of the bak-kua now is at a crazy S$45/ kg!! I can't remember the price of it in Msia but I do not think that it's really that high! A few days before that, if I'm not mistaken, Clone mentioned she saw it was at S$40/kg.. Or was it because it's in Orchard? Hehehe..

Anyway, today I was at supplier's site in JB for an audit.. and guess what? I was hunting high and low for vacuumed-packed bak-kua to be brought over across the border. My supplier called up his wife and found the place. We went in and the aroma of it was sooooo nice. Hehehe. (Don't ask me where this craving came from).

And so, I bought 500g of v-packed pork bak-kua (yes, pork is still the best!). The lady nicely packed a bundle and put inside a nice paper-bag. Then I told my colleague to tell her that we're bringing across the border. He did, and immediately she said, "Oh...ok". She took out the stuffs again, then wrapped inside another bag, hot sealed it and put inside a plain plastic bag. Ok, as far as I know, sweet meat cannot be brought in here, which I have no idea why, since it's been processed. Anyway, we managed to get in.. with the help of a little scented gel as the bak-kua smell was rather strong (yes, even though it's v-packed!) and after awhile, it went off. Kekeke... Now, Jason & I can happily enjoy our breakfast-with-bread-&-bak-kua every morning till we go home for CNY. :) And yeah, I paid RM32 for it. :P

Last year we were fortunate as one of the buyers gave us a big packet of bak-kuas from the suppliers. This year, the buyer has left the company, and I too have left the company.. Hehehe..

Hahaha.. *happiness*... :)

2 kay-pohs:

  1. I bought the famous Bakgua brand "Lim Chee Guan" in Chinatown since newspapers and my colleagues are strongly recommend but personaly feel the taste is so so only..

M'sia typical brand "Wo Lai Ye" still be the most favourite Bakgua in my list. None can beat with it so far!

  2. Wo Lai Ye is the Kiew Brothers lor.. Yup, I bought that... :P
