Wedding (VI) : Tea Ceremony -11th Nov 2006

Pre-wedding dinner:

Had a pre-wedding dinner for my relatives, close friends, colleagues, and church members. We had the rehearsal at the hotel, together with the pastor, and also my bridal party, and the 2 musicians. After that, I went to the florist (Jason’s aunt), to get my bouquet and also the rest of the girls/ladies’ bouquet. (I hope you ladies like it :P). We heeded lots of people’s advise to get a tent for the house just in case it rained. And guess what, it was raining cats and dogs during and after the rehearsal, and thank God for the tent. It pays to listen to people who have eaten more salt than you. And because of the rain, I actually changed the place of the ceremony towards the middle hall of the hotel. Supposed to be directly at the pool side, but I couldn't because I was afraid it would rain cats & dogs, just like it did during the rehearsal.
And so, after dinner, my friends and I spent some time together chit-chatting in my room… and after that, zZzzZzzzz….

Supposed to be the actual ceremony site. But the wind was strong, and blew the rain in. Too bad.

The Day - Morning Session (Tea Ceremony)

7.30am: I woke up to a bright and sunny morning. Took a bath, and after a while, I heard my mum calling me to let me know that my make up artist has arrived.

8.00am: She was super punctual, 8am sharp. She was also the person who made up for me for my Segamat dinner (of course, before I went to Segamat, I did it here first). I told her I wanted a hair updo. This is because I had intention to let my hair go during the actual matrimony. And ta-da… she did it really well.. in fact, I prefer this hairstyle compared to my actual matrimony… Anyway, anything will do for me on that day. I’ve already sort of “let go”.. in the sense, whatever happens on that day, let it be.. I’m not going to fret over it and make me spoil my day. Hehehe.. of course, I heard lots of not good comments after the whole thing (no alcoholic drinks served, food not good, service very bad, etc).. and also a long time even after my honeymoon…But things were already over, can’t be undone, and I apologise to those of you if there were any inconvenience caused on your side..

Ta-da.. she took about 1.5 hrs to make me up and do my hairdo. (I hired her for the whole day till my dinner). Half-way through, my photographer, Junnie, arrived…

9.00am: Moving on, most of my relatives (my super excited aunts) were already at my place . The groom was supposed to arrive at 10.30am. (And no, we do not follow the Chinese tradition of specific timing and so on). And so arrived my two best school buddies, MC & Fay. Followed by Qimondians (MY, MC, LWS, WP, HL). My parents' humble home is rather cosy, so, imagine the amount of people in the house and also, thank God once again for the tent, some of them could eat under the tent, and do not have to cramp everyone in the house. Really thank each and everyone of them who came down all the way, especially my aunt from Jakarta, my relatives from Spore and KL, and not forgetting friends from KL. And of course, friends/colleagues in Melaka, u guys are great. After the make up, my friends helped me changed into my gown. And lo & behold, my gown was actually quite lose. I guessed I must have lost more weight during the last week. I almost panicked. hehe. Just the week before I tried it and it fitted well. Anyway, had to ask Fay & MC to tightened the ribbons at the back. Kekeke… After that, as a tradition, my parents had to put the veil over for me…. Meanwhile, some pictures taken at the groom’s place before fetching the bride…

10.15am: We heard the horn of the car… and so, the groom is on the way. All this time, I’m being cooped up in my room, waiting… and waiting…and waiting.. Anxious and nervous, all at once. Heard lots of noise outside.

And someone told me that there a was a whole jing-gang of them. Big group. And so, they played some games. This is what I can remember from the pictures taken. MC, LWS, and MY were my benteng (fort). (Thanks, ladies). They created a few cards, the groom’s party had to pick one. If they are not able to do what it is written, they will have to give angpow (red packet usually filled with money token) to the amount stated on the cards, as penalties.
#1 – Suck your/your friend’s toe (Results: The groom’s party did NOT do it, so they “paid” penalty)

#2 – Use lipstick, kiss your friend (Results: They did it. Move to next game)

#3 – Say your vows aloud. (Results: He did it. He actually manage to memorize it despite the nervousness)

#4 – Write something about R.A.C.H.E.L. (Results: They did it. Move on into the house, living area).

#5 – Sing a song, Forever Love by WangLiHom (Results: They did it half-way,forgot the lyrics.
Changed songs, until all is satisfied, before getting the bride.) (Did I miss any out?)

11.30am: After getting the bride, they had to search for her shoes. And goodness, they really ransacked my whole room. Once done, we were ready to start the
tea ceremony.(See tea-drinking customs)
We thought with the amount of relatives that I had, it will take long, but about half an hour later, we were done and over with.

12.00pm: Lunch was served. Everyone happily eating, and after a while, we had to adjourn to the groom’s side.

12.15pm: The bridal party reaches the groom’s house. And after taking pictures with friends and relatives, I had to take out my hairpins from my head to get ready for the second round of make up and hairdo. After that, we left for the hotel.
